On September 8–9, 2025, a regional seminar titled “Conservation and Wise Use of Wetlands within the Framework of the Ramsar Convention” was held in the city of Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic. The event brought together representatives from Central Asian countries — Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan — as well as international and regional organizations.

The main objective of the seminar was to discuss issues related to the conservation of biological diversity, climate change adaptation, and the sustainable use of wetland areas within the framework of the Ramsar Convention.

The seminar was organized with the support of GIZ (Project “Green Central Asia: Phase II”), the Ramsar Regional Initiative, and other partners. In addition to scientific and expert discussions, participants visited the Issyk-Kul State Nature Reserve.

The delegation from the Republic of Tajikistan included representatives of the Committee for Environmental Protection, who delivered presentations. Among the topics presented were the inclusion of priority wetlands of the country in the Ramsar List, the national action plan, climate monitoring, and the role of these sites in biodiversity conservation.

At the conclusion of the event, a joint resolution was adopted emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation in ecosystem conservation, climate change adaptation, capacity building for specialists, and engagement of local communities.
